Large banner in PDF format

How do I make a pdf for a large sign I want to have printed at Kinko's? Letters should be 12 inches tall for a sign that is 6 ft x 3 ft, I think.
openoffice 4.1.1

Make it in Draw using a User page size of 72 x 36 inches, then when finished /File /Export as PDF.

The most important thing is not saving document but exporting it as PDF
OpenOffice 3.1 on Windows Vista
