ODT to JPEG?

Can I convert a document formatted as odt to a jpeg, gif, or png? I've done some research and can find nothing helpful. Be advised I stopped being an elite computer user in 8th grade. Any help will be appreciated thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the community forum.

You can't directly create a jpg image from a word processing document. One option would be to export the document as PDF and then use an online converter such as Zamzar to convert the PDF to an image format.

You cannot do it directly but there are many methods including:

1. Open the document and zoom to the size you want. Press PrtScr to copy the screen to the clipboard; or ALt+PrtScrn to copy the active window to the clipboard. Paste into an image editor. Crop as required. Save as a PNG.

2. Save as a PDF. Zoom the PDF to the size required - even to larger than the screen. Using Adobe Reader go Edit > Take a snapshot ... Select the area required with the cursor. Paste into an image editor. Save as a PNG.

If you cannot get the required pixel count with 1. then zoom until the page is larger than the screen. Copy the screen and save it. Scroll down and copy the screen and save it. In IrfanView use Image > Create panorama image ..., to create a single image from the two or more saved images. Crop as required.

If you are creating an image of text you should not be using a JPG as it will add artefacts, blur text edges and destroy quality. You should use a PNG. See [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images for a discussion on how best to handle images.

If you use LibreOffice it can be done in one step:
menu File > Export... > JPEG :: width, height, resolution > finished
If resolution is 300, you will get a well printable file; there is no compression level to adjust, so I think it is around 100 (best quality). Also other formats available, png.

If you use pdf24 (Windows) you may "print out" not only as pdf but as bitmap, also little effort.

Creation of other file types: PDF/A, PDF/X, PS, EPS, PCL, PNG, JPEG, BMP, PCX, TIFF, PSD

The resolution can be determined as you like it... If there is more than one page to "print" pdf24 generates differently numbered files.

To convert an ODT to JPEG, you can save it as a PDF first and then use a tool like jpeg compressor to manage the image quality after conversion. This way, you can get a good quality output without too much hassle.
