Templates: a dedicated repository in the openOffice web site

Post by Hagar Delest »

As this is a rather frequent question from users in forums, you'll be pleased to find now a dedicated area for templates:

http://templates.services.openoffice.org/

You can also upload your own templates:
This Template Repository is a place for the submission of new templates made by you, the community!
You created a nice template? Submit it, get feedback and help others to be more productive!
NB: you need an OOo account to upload files, if you've already an account (to access the Issue Tracker for example), you can use it.

Enjoy!

I've used the above link before- but it seems to have stopped working recently. Is this temporary?

Error rec'd is a standard http error:
"Unable to connect: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at templates.services.openoffice.org."

TIA & thanks for all the work that everyone does with this... definitely a great thing...

The message you replied to is quite old. The template and extension sites are hosted external of the OOo sites and have been having problems for the last few months. It is unknown if and when they will be fixed.

They have still not fixed it, and it is one of of the main choices on the openoffice.org website.

Well, guess what? I have a template to submit, but your repository doesn't want it. I don't have an account on that part of the site, and when I tried to create an account, all I got was "404 Not Found". That site is seriously having major problems. :alarm:

May be linked to that: Migration: OOo web site comes to Apache servers.

Try in a couple of days.

The forum is meant for assisting users of OOo, not for distributing software, files or templates.

However, there's nothing at all preventing you from starting a topic and attaching a template document. Maybe that would be a good way to get some direct feedback on the templates--if that's something you're interested in.

The only problem I can see is if you were to upload a large number of such templates, say more than ten(?) or so.

Oh, and maybe long-term access could be an issue. As I said, we're not offering a file repository here; there's no guarantee that a file attached here will remain indefinitely. We've not deleted any attached files--that I'm aware of--but there could come a point where we might decide to remove some.

So, I'd say, maybe the forum is not a good substitute for the templates site, but it could still be useful on a limited basis.

As the Forum is hosted on Apache servers, the hosting of extended content may be subject to Apache's requirements for licensing, about which I know nothing.
Edit: I am aware that the subject of hosting Templates and Extensions is currently being discussed on the Apache Mailing List(s), so some resolution of the indeterminacy problem of the current site should shortly be arrived at.

Try several retries if you can't get in to the site.

For the record, the templates site is now back and working after its migration to SourceForge.net.

Hello,

I am having the same problem. I am also using firefox. Before, it worked, but recently, it's stopped working. Do you have any idea how I can make it work? It is very frustrating when I refresh the page and it still doesn't work. Thanks for your help.
