[Solved] Use after installation

I have been using OpenOffice 4.1.3 for a couple of years. Recently, I was unable to open a document, and saw somehow that 4.1.7 was available, so I installed it. After that, when I wanted to open a document, the only Apache option offered for opening the document was the 4.1.7 installation. Reinstallation did nothing to allow me to open the document. I went to this forum for help and saw that the latest version is 4.1.11, so I installed that. Now my only option is an eternal reinstallation of either .11 or .7. I still can't just open a document. What am I missing?

Please tell us the error message you get when you attempt to open a document with OpenOffice.

Thank you for the response. I think the issue is with the document that was sent. I've gone back to older attachments and have been able to open them with V. 11
