[Solved] Encrypt document

Post by wymerdan »

I made a list of all my accounts and passwords and would
like to encrypt just this document which is stored in doc
sub directory. Does open office have the ability to do so?
tks. Dan

Us the menu File -> Save As. There will be a box on the dialog labelled Save with password. Select that and then click the Save button. You will get a dialog to enter an encryption password. Fill that out and you will be done.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Yes it can; save with a password.
But be sure not to forget the password because there are few chances to hack the file. We usually have questions in the forum about how to decrypt such files...

Note that there are password managers that does this kind of job quite well. I use KeepassXC for example.

I have moved your topic from General discussion to Writer BTW.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

As Hagar says: also, if the file becomes corrupted, either by premature close down of the computer or by (for example) failure of a disk drive (a.k.a. "bit rot"), your data will be irrecoverable. Print out the information and place the printout somewhere safe, just in case.
