It isn't clear from your question what component of OpenOffice you are using or what you mean by "sidenumbers" But I'll take a guess; you are using Writer, inserting page numbers and you should try toggling the setting for View | Field Names.

If that doesn't solve your problem, please describe which component you are using - Writer, Calc, etc. - and precisely what you are doing to "set sidenumbers".

Thank you for answering.
I use open office writer 4.1.15 on windows 10 professional.
Until now I had no problems to set the page numbers. But since
a few days there always appears the word 'Sidenumber' (in german 'Seitennummer')
but It is impossible to set the number.

As I said, try changing the setting for View | Field Names, which in German may be (according to Google Translate) Anzeigen | Feldnamen.

This will change between seeing the name of the field and the contents of the field.

PS Google agrees with my memory, that Seite translates as page as well as side; in this context page makes more sense.

It may be that https://www.deepl.com/ will give you a more accurate translation when one is needed. It gives "pagenumber" for "seitennummer".

If you wish to "set" (that is, to specify) a particular pagenumber, rather than merely to display an actual number, then you need to tell us. If in doubt about exact translation, please give us also your request in your original language, as well as your English version.

Perhaps off topic:

Is your normal language (some variety of) English, and OpenOffice is displaying its menus and help in German?

If so, and you wish to change it so OpenOffice "speaks" English, then you should change settings within OpenOffice in (your equivalent of) /Tools/ Options /Language Settings /Languages : Locale Settings, and also User Interface, (in that order), selecting the variety of English you wish from the dropdowns. You should then close OpenOffice and restart it - I advise a complete computer restart, after a formal shutdown.

If you do not find the English user interface in Tools → Options → Language Settings → Languages, you can download OpenOffice for English. The language selected for the download provides that user interface language. The English download will include every locale, including German.

Not on my Dutch version.
Userinterface is nl - no dropdown, just Dutch

I can however choose another Locale if I should wish that :D
