[Solved] PPTX font color always shown as black
[Solved] PPTX font color always shown as black
If I open an PPTX presentation in MS Office, it is a black slide with yellow text.
If I open the same PPTX in OpenOffice 4.1.5., it is a black slide with black text.
Does anybody know how it could be fixed? Converting the text color into e.g. white does not help (it is again black).
My real use-case is a black image used as a slide background and white text over it. I need to keep the white text color. I understand compatibility issues in edge casese but I'm a bit surprised that something substantial like the text color is not preserved. Any reason for this?
Affected PPTX attached.

Re: Font color always rendered as black in PPTX opened in Impress
Sometimes a ppt slide opened in OpenOffice brings the background to the front (top layer); I have run across this when a speaker brings only a USB stick with a presentation expecting there to be a compatible computer there - they being of the school that thinks computers are "magic boxes", and don't realise they are not all the same.

Opened in 3.4.1 — a black slide with yellow text
Opened in 4.x — a black slide with black text
⠀ ⠀
Issue 125568 ("PPTX font color is set to black") might be a similar case.

Re: Font color always rendered as black in PPTX opened in Impress
Hello! This seems not to be this case. If I open the PPTX, then change the text color in Impress, the text is above the background.
Actually, the problem does not relate to background at all.
If I create only an empty (white) slide with yellow text, it is black when opened in Impress. The text color simply returns to black. See PPTX_compatibility2.pptx.

For the record, it opens fine in LibreOffice (the attachment of the first post).

Thanks everyone for responses. You helped me even it is not actually fixed.
Thanks. This is very helpful. I think I can move to LibreOffice, I will definitely check in few days (it is not related to my computer).Hagar Delest wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 9:05 am For the record, it opens fine in LibreOffice (the attachment of the first post).

Hi,
Sorry, I do not want to bother you with former versions. By the way, did you try to save your power point file in PPT format?

Since it seems to be an import issue, few chance that at the export the same bug would do the reverse...
PPT is anyway quite deprecated now.

Re: Font color always rendered as black in PPTX opened in Impress
If the original PPTX is saved as PPT in PowerPoint and opened in OpenOffice, it works. Maybe it is interesting, but not related to my problem because when a PPTX arrives at PC where no MS Office is installed, I can't do this step.
But anyway, now I plan to move to LibreOffice...

Ah, I thought the proposal was to save in PPT from AOO...
Interesting indeed, that means that there is a regression in the pptx import filter.
You can file a bug report since it is easily reproductible: [Tutorial] Reporting bugs or suggestions.

Unfortunately, I was not able to create an account at bugzilla for AOO - tutorial leads to this: https://bz.apache.org/ooo/createaccount.cgi
and the shown e-mail is not working (This is the qmail-send program at apache.org. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.)
But anyway, if AOO is no longer constantly supported, it is not a pitty. Thanks for tip.

Re: Font color always rendered as black in PPTX opened in Impress
Excuse me Sir,
I have seen for myself and managed to handle an XML PPTX as follows:
- After having reloaded the file in IMPRESS i saved it as odp first.
- Subsequently I opened my odp and noticed that I could change font colors.
By now, should I face same situation, I would act as above.
Regards
Nick
