Alternating colors on spreadsheet rows

Post by namely »

I am trying to follow a tutorial on how to set up a book journal series reading tracker thing in a spreadsheet. This person is using googlesheet or whatever not OpenOffice and I notice that there is no custom color option but also there is no setting for alternating colors like she does it in the video.

So, how do I get alternating rows of color like one row pink one row beige all the way through the sheet?

A web search of the forum turned up quite a few results.

No this didn't help I clicked on the first link and all it did was bring up some closed threads I couldn't read the answers to.
I know nothing about spreadsheets.

And, I did type in my question in bing and only got a few results from 2008 that made VERY LITTLE SENSE AT ALL. I didn't type it in this forum though since I thought there was only that from 2008.

Okay, I was looking and realized the problem with reading the link. But it still doesn't help. I have downloaded the pdf suggested in the first link and all I got was some spreadsheet in white and grey with no instructions. I know nothing about spreadsheets.

I am looking at the manual pdf and that makes no sense either.

I did see that you can make custom colors but it sure isn't something you'd know about. Why isn't this as easy to use as googlesheets? Like why hide the custom colors bit? Why make it so hard to just get these alternating colors? In google sheets its right there on the menu in one click.

This topic, the first from the search results I gave above, seems to be fairly straight forward.

Note: if google sheets provides what you need then perhaps that would be the tool to use?
