[Solved] Page preview doesn't match print
[Solved] Page preview doesn't match print
In writer I have a display that I am happy with onto A4 but when it prints it is not the same. The document contains two text boxes which are rotated 90degrees. I am trying to get the left had box to print further down the page which is showing correctly on preview.
A4 is showing in page format and when I go to print it says a4 too.
Please help

Re: In Writer preview shows what isn't printing
What is the paper orientation of your Printer? In /File /Print /General, press Properties button and check that printer page orientation is set to Portrait.

Re: In Writer preview shows what isn't printing
I'm actually trying to print on a paper size 12.70 25.80 and it refuses to print without a 7cm bottom margin. If I move the graphic closer to the edge it fails to print all. I thought printing with the A4 setting might "fool it"

Re: In Writer preview shows what isn't printing
Check the settings I outlined - the page size and orientation set in OpenOffice for the document are different from those set in OpenOffice's /File /Print : General tab : Properties button, which are the settings the printer will use for actual printing on its paper.

Re: In Writer preview shows what isn't printing
Please upload a real Writer ODT file instead of a screen shot. Screen shots don't show the settings used to position the text boxes.
You should also try using the real page sizes instead of A4. Using the A4 setting would require using larger bottom and right side margin settings to restrict printing to the actual print area of the smaller paper you're using.

Re: In Writer preview shows what isn't printing
I take it you are intending to print Christmas cards, which I assume will be on card, as heavy as your printer will permit. It may be helpful to know the make and model of your printer. Does your printer allow User sized paper? If not, it may be necessary to print on a standard size, such as A4, and later trim to the required design size.

Re: In Writer preview shows what isn't printing
In OpenOffice /File /Print the selected Paper size for the printer to use (reached via /File /Print /General tab, Properties button) showed that the printer was set to print on DL Envelope size. As soon as I set that selection to A4, the entire printed on an A4 page.

Re: In Writer preview shows what isn't printing
If an incorrect paper size is being selected by the printer when printing the uploaded file, then the custom paper size needs to be added to the printer. In Linux, I did this by modifying the printer's PPD file in /etc/cups/ppd. Instructions for adding custom paper sizes to printers in all operating systems can be found using Google.
