FYI I designed some tutorials. Hope they are suitable. Here they are:
OpenOffice - Getting Your Feet Wet with base INTRODUCTION http://vimeo.com/20044322
OpenOffice - Getting Your Feet Wet with base Tutorial #1 http://vimeo.com/20049283
OpenOffice - Getting Your Feet Wet with base Tutorial #2 http://vimeo.com/20083827

Perhaps INTRODUCTION could be omitted, I dont know? but would appreciate any comments before I go further with
continuing the series; I am doing a #3 which will be up soon, then following #4 which will be more complex database design.
God bless,
Alistair.

Find it hard to believe no one else has responded.

I don't use Base but have an upcoming project that calls for it. I watched your videos and learned quite a bit.

They could stand some improvement as the last one (3 of 3) ends in the middle of a sentence. So, great idea
but it needs better implementation. The more "how to" stuff there is the better to draw users to OOo.

Hi JohnV,

Thanks for doing these. Personally, I user video tutorials a lot, and have learned a lot about numerous programs using them. Will you be doing any more?

Is there a reason that these videos aren't public? I would appreciate not having to give yet another website my info...and just to watch on my own, anonymously.
Please make them available to the world.
Cheers,
mateolan

Really enjoyed the tutorials. When can we expect more? Only request I have is when you do something, like ungroup or group, you don't tell what keys you use to do the operation. In video 2 you just say I hit a key sequence to ungroup. I am new to this and although it will help me to look it up, would be nice to be able to follow along on my computer.

Thanks ... I am learning a lot from the video sequence....

Critique:
1. You talk way too slow.
2. Don't read your slide. People can read far faster than most people can talk.
3. Your screen dumps use too fine a resolution. It's a good idea to temporarily set your screen resolution to something like 800 x 600 to do the screen movies. This will make text that is large enough to read fairly easily.
4. DON'T get distracted with what-ifs. Go through the whole thing at once.
5. Edit your presentation after to take out pauses.
6. If you can, make the mouse cursor a bright color. This will allow people to track the cursor if you edit later.

Importing data should NOT be the first lesson in this series.

I would suggest by building a VERY simple list, such as a phone list.

Then build a form to work with this very simple phone list.

Thank you for making these tutorials. I am new to Open Office Base and need easy to understand instructions. Thank you for speaking slowly because that makes it easier to catch every word. I like the suggestion that what ifs be eliminated. Just explaining what you are doing and how makes the tutorial as simple as possible. I like the idea of starting the series with something very simple such as building a simple phone book form. On the other hand it is possible that the simplest things are available on tutorials from other sources.
