Objective
Remove deprecated content from the Wiki to improve readability and ease maintenance of the wiki. Correct double-redirect pages to point to the correct page.
Procedure
Detect Obsolete Pages
- Persons: anyone
- Obsolete Pages:
- pages whose content has become irrelevant
- redirect-pages if no user is expected to use the former page name
- other pages that are deemed obsolete
- Double redirects: should be corrected to point directly to the correct page;
- correcting the link needs no user confirmation
- Actions:
- report pages to page-owner or creator
- report pages to appropriate mailing list
- report intention to delete on the former's page Discussion-page
Mark For Deletion
- appointed person:
- marks page for speedy deletion
- reports the page as per Detect Obsolete Pages section, if not previously reported
Page Deletion
- wiki-maintainer deletes page if any of the following conditions is satisfied:
- page-owner confirms obsolete nature of the page
- project-owner confirms obsolete nature of the page and neither the page-owner, nor anyone on the mailing lists offer a suitable explanation to keep the page
- there is no response in 3 months and there are no obvious reasons to keep the page
Correcting Double-Redirects
- Double redirects:
- can be corrected immediately without any prior notification
- if initial page name is unlikely to be used by any user, then the redirect-page should be handled as per Mark For Deletion-section
Users
- any wiki-reader can report an obsolete page
- page-owner and project-lead should confirm or negate the obsolete nature of the page
- wiki-maintainer will delete the page
